Franklin Smith is currently seeking experienced Structural Welders to join a busy fabrication workshop located in Central / South Auckland. This is an excellent opportunity for skilled welders who are looking to work with a reputable civil contractor on long-term structural fabrication projects.

The successful candidates will play a key role in supporting fabrication and welding operations within a fast-paced workshop environment. You will be responsible for performing high-quality structural welding tasks, maintaining safety standards, and contributing to the timely completion of large-scale construction and infrastructure projects.

This role is ideal for individuals who are hardworking, reliable, and capable of working independently or as part of a team. If you have strong MIG welding skills and enjoy working in a professional fabrication environment, this position offers competitive pay and consistent hours.

Key Responsibilities

As a Structural Welder, your duties may include:

  • Performing MIG welding on structural steel components according to project specifications and engineering drawings
  • Preparing metal materials for welding by cutting, grinding, and cleaning surfaces
  • Ensuring welds meet quality standards and structural integrity requirements
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and fabrication plans
  • Operating welding and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently
  • Assisting with general workshop fabrication tasks when required
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment in accordance with workplace health and safety regulations
  • Collaborating with supervisors and fabrication teams to meet production deadlines

Skills and Experience Required

To be considered for this role, applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Structural Welder or in a similar welding role
  • Proven MIG welding experience with relevant certificates or qualifications
  • Ability to pass a welding test prior to employment
  • Experience in structural steel fabrication is preferred but not essential
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy fabrication workshop environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and physically capable of handling demanding tasks
