Job Overview
Air North, Yukon’s Airline is seeking an experienced and reliable Food Preparer to join its food services team in Whitehorse, Yukon. This full-time, permanent position offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity to work in a fast-paced aviation catering environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing, packaging, and maintaining high-quality food products in compliance with airline catering standards, food safety regulations, and airport security requirements.
This is an on-site position, and remote work is not available.

Candidates must be comfortable working flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
Key Responsibilities
The Food Preparer will perform a variety of food handling, preparation, and sanitation duties, including:
Food Preparation Duties
- Prepare, heat, and finish simple food items
- Wash, peel, and cut vegetables and fruits
- Portion and wrap foods according to airline specifications
- Package take-out and in-flight food items
- Stock refrigerators, freezers, and salad bars
Kitchen Operations
- Operate kitchen equipment such as:
- Conventional ovens
- Grills
- Manual and electrical food preparation appliances
- Receive, unpack, and store supplies properly
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure proper food rotation
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, cupboards, appliances, and storage areas
- Maintain strict food hygiene standards
- Follow WHMIS and workplace safety regulations
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety Certificate requirements
Education Requirements
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience Requirements
- 3 years to less than 5 years of experience in food preparation, commercial kitchen, or catering environment
- Experience in high-volume or airline catering is considered an asset
Required Certifications
- Valid Food Safety Certificate
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
- Must be eligible for Airport Security Clearance
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions
This position requires physical stamina and the ability to perform under pressure, including:
- Standing for extended periods
- Repetitive tasks
- Working in a fast-paced environment
- Handling heavy loads up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
- Maintaining attention to detail
- Working under tight timelines
