Key Responsibilities

As a Fitter Welder, your duties will include:

  • Performing high-quality welding and fabrication work using various welding processes such as MIG, TIG, and ARC welding
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings, engineering plans, and specifications to accurately complete fabrication projects
  • Carrying out mechanical fitting and assembly work on a variety of engineering components and machinery
  • Operating workshop equipment including cutting tools, grinders, drills, and machining equipment
  • Conducting repair and maintenance work on mechanical systems, structures, and equipment
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high engineering standards
  • Assisting with custom engineering projects and prototype development
  • Supporting the workshop team in meeting project deadlines and maintaining productivity
  • Communicating effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and occasionally clients
  • Contributing ideas to improve workshop processes and engineering solutions

Skills and Experience Required

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Trade qualification or tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication, Fitting & Turning, or a related discipline
  • Strong practical experience in metal fabrication and welding
  • Experience in machining or mechanical fitting is highly advantageous
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
