About the Role
Heavymech is seeking a skilled and motivated Boilermaker to join its Mount Isa operations. In this role, you will be responsible for the fabrication, repair, maintenance, and installation of structural steel, chutes, pipework, and heavy industrial components.
You will work both in the workshop and onsite environments, interpreting engineering drawings, operating fabrication machinery, and performing high-quality MIG and Stick welding to meet strict quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, and install steel structures and components according to engineering drawings and specifications
- Perform high-quality MIG and Stick welding, cutting, gouging, and grinding
- Repair and maintain heavy industrial and fixed plant equipment
- Support shutdown projects and onsite mechanical works as required
- Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards
- Identify faults and troubleshoot fabrication or mechanical issues
- Maintain accurate job documentation and follow workshop procedures
- Promote safe work practices and actively contribute to a positive safety culture
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- Relevant Metal Fabrication qualification, such as:
- AQF Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (including at least two years of on-the-job training), OR
- AQF Certificate IV, OR
- At least three years of relevant trade experience in lieu of formal qualification
- Minimum 12 months’ proven experience in fabrication, welding, and industrial/mechanical maintenance
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
- Demonstrated professional welding experience (MIG, Stick; additional methods highly regarded)
- Experience working with fixed plant and heavy industrial equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Solid understanding of Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) standards
- Effective communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
