We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Drone & GPS Operator to join our Plantation Division in the Miri Division, Sarawak.

Position Overview

The Drone & GPS Operator will be responsible for conducting aerial and ground surveys to support plantation mapping, monitoring, and operational planning. The role involves operating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), GPS equipment, and GIS software to capture, process, and analyze geospatial data related to oil palm estates.

This position requires technical proficiency, fieldwork readiness, and the ability to work in rural plantation environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate drones (UAVs) to capture high-resolution aerial photographs and videos of oil palm estates.
  • Conduct aerial surveys for plantation mapping, boundary verification, and land assessment.
  • Use conventional GPS devices and survey equipment to collect field data for mapping and geospatial analysis.
  • Assist in monitoring plantation conditions, including:
    • Replanting areas
    • Estate roads and infrastructure
    • Drainage systems
    • Crop health and field boundaries
  • Process and analyze spatial data using GIS software.
  • Prepare maps, survey reports, and data summaries for management review.
  • Plan and execute drone flight missions using flight planning applications.
  • Ensure all drones, GPS devices, and related equipment are properly maintained and operated in compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Travel to rural plantation areas as required and operate 4WD vehicles when necessary.
  • Comply with company policies and local aviation regulations for UAV operations.

Requirements & Qualifications

Technical Requirements:

  • Proven experience in:
    • Ground surveys
    • Aerial surveys using UAVs
    • Operation of conventional GPS devices and survey equipment
  • Proficiency in GIS software such as:
    • MapSource
    • Quantum GIS (QGIS)
    • Other equivalent GIS platforms
  • Experience with image processing software such as:
    • Agisoft Photoscan (Metashape) or similar applications (added advantage)
  • Knowledge of flight planning applications and data processing workflows.

General Requirements:

  • Valid driving license.
  • Ability to drive a 4WD vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to rural and plantation areas.
  • Physically fit and able to work in outdoor field environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
