The Opportunity: Shared Share-Farming

Unlike a standard farm hand role, a Share-Farmer acts as a partner in the farm’s success. You will work alongside another long-term share-farming couple (who have been with the farm for 13 years), splitting responsibilities to ensure the highest standards of animal husbandry and production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Herd Management: Overseeing a 600-cow herd with a focus on high-production metrics.
  • Rotary Operations: Efficiently managing milking sessions in a modern 50-unit rotary shed.
  • Paddock Rotations: Implementing best practices for grazing and animal nutrition across 6,250 acres.
  • Stock Management: Excellence in dairy stock handling, calf rearing, and heifer management.
  • Reporting: Maintaining high-level communication with the farm owners regarding performance and strategy.

Requirements: What You Need to Succeed

Green Plains Dairy is looking for a professional who takes “Respect and Pride” in the industry.

  1. Experience: Proven background in dairy farming and excellence in animal husbandry.
  2. Equipment: As a Share-Farmer, you must provide your own herding vehicles (Ute, Quadbike) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  3. Business Ready: You must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) as you will receive payments directly from the milk company.
  4. Skills: Strong focus on Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), time management, and the ability to work unsupervised.

The Meningie Lifestyle

Located just 15km from the farm, the town of Meningie offers a “fabulous lifestyle” on the shores of Lake Albert. It is a vibrant community with all essential services, making it an ideal location for families.

  • Outdoor Recreation: Boating, fishing, and lakeside living.
  • Community: A supportive regional environment with a strong agricultural backbone.
