About the Role

We are currently offering permanent full-time positions for highly skilled Fabricator/Welders who are capable of working across a diverse range of industrial projects. This role involves a combination of workshop fabrication and on-site installation, including both short-term and long-term assignments across the Bay of Plenty and wider North Island.

This is not an entry-level role. We are looking for experienced professionals who can confidently apply their expertise to complex engineering projects in demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

As a Fabricator/Welder at MPF Engineering, your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing high-quality welding and fabrication work across various industrial applications
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • Fabricating and assembling structural components, pipework, and mechanical systems
  • Carrying out site installations, maintenance, and shutdown work
  • Welding using multiple processes including GTAW (TIG), MIG, and SMAW (Stick)
  • Working with carbon steel and stainless steel materials
  • Ensuring all work meets required industry codes and safety standards
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient working environment
  • Collaborating effectively with team members and working independently when required

Typical Projects Include

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, including:

  • Heavy industrial facilities and chemical processing plants
  • Timber, food, and dairy processing industries
  • Infrastructure and power generation sites
  • Ports and large-scale industrial facilities
  • Mechanical installations and planned shutdowns
  • Pipe spooling (carbon steel, stainless steel, hygienic tubing)
  • Fabrication of pressure vessels, tanks, platforms, and walkways
  • Industrial refrigeration systems
  • Energy sector projects, including geothermal and steam systems
  • Stainless steel fabrication for food-grade and dairy applications
  • Silos, piping systems, and structural installations

Skills & Experience Required

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant industrial engineering experience (post Level 4 trade certificate or equivalent overseas qualification)
  • Proven experience in both fabrication and welding (this role is not suitable for fabrication-only candidates)
  • Strong proficiency in welding processes:
    • GTAW (TIG)
    • MIG
    • SMAW (Stick)
  • Ability to weld to recognized standards such as:
    • ASME IX
    • NZS 1554.1
  • Demonstrated experience in pipe welding (mandatory for welder-only applicants)
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment weld test
  • Full, unrestricted driver’s licence (manual preferred)

Preferred (Advantageous):

  • Forklift operating experience
  • Experience in heavy industrial or energy sector environments
  • Knowledge of hygienic stainless steel systems
