Due to continued growth and increasing project demand, we are currently seeking an experienced and skilled Steel Fabricator to join our team at our Morningside/St Lukes workshop in Auckland.

Position Overview

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime available depending on workload and project deadlines.

The role involves working on a wide variety of custom stainless steel and structural steel fabrication projects, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys diverse and technically challenging work.

The successful candidate will play an important role in manufacturing and assembling steel components while ensuring high standards of workmanship, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

The Steel Fabricator will be responsible for a variety of fabrication and welding tasks within the workshop and occasionally on-site installations.

Typical duties associated with this role include:

  • Fabricating medium to light gauge steel components according to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Working with structural steel materials including angles, flat bars, channels, SHS, and UB beams
  • Performing high-quality TIG, MIG, and ARC welding
  • Cutting, bending, and shaping metal using fabrication equipment such as press brakes and guillotine machines
  • Reading and interpreting fabrication drawings, technical plans, and measurements
  • Assembling fabricated metal parts with precision and attention to detail
  • Conducting finishing processes such as grinding, polishing, and surface preparation
  • Carrying out off-site installation work when required
  • Ensuring all work meets company quality standards and client specifications
  • Maintaining workshop tools and equipment in safe working condition
  • Working both independently and collaboratively with other workshop staff
  • Following workplace health and safety regulations at all times

Required Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should possess strong fabrication and welding experience along with the ability to deliver high-quality work consistently.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Trade qualification in metal fabrication, welding, or engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience in steel fabrication and welding
  • A current welding ticket in MIG or ARC welding
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Experience working with workshop machinery such as press brakes and guillotines
  • Excellent fabrication accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Experience with stainless steel fabrication (preferred but not essential)
