About the Role
Blokhaus Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced and reliable Welder / Gas Cutter to join our team in Queenstown for an upcoming plant installation and industrial assembly project. This is an excellent opportunity for skilled tradespeople who take pride in delivering high-quality welding, fabrication, and metal cutting work in an industrial environment.
In this role, you will assist with the installation, fabrication, and assembly of newly delivered plant equipment. The successful candidate will work alongside a highly experienced plant installer and project supervisor, who will coordinate and guide the team on-site to ensure the project is completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest industry standards.
This position is ideal for individuals with strong experience in structural steel welding, gas cutting, plant installation, and heavy equipment assembly. The role requires someone who is physically fit, technically skilled, and able to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
As a Welder / Gas Cutter on this project, your duties will include a variety of fabrication, welding, and installation tasks. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on structural steel and plant components where required.
- Operating oxy-acetylene gas cutting equipment safely and accurately for metal cutting and shaping.
- Cutting, grinding, shaping, and preparing steel components and metal materials for installation.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, fabrication blueprints, and installation plans.
- Assisting with the assembly and positioning of industrial plant equipment and structures.
- Conducting precision welding and fabrication work according to project specifications.
- Grinding, finishing, and cleaning welds to ensure strong structural integrity and professional finish.
- Supporting mechanical installers and electricians during plant assembly and installation tasks.
- Maintaining tools, welding equipment, and cutting machinery in good working condition.
- Following instructions and work plans provided by the lead plant installer and site supervisor.
- Ensuring all work complies with workplace safety regulations and site health and safety policies.
- Keeping the worksite clean, organized, and safe for all team members.
Skills and Experience Required
To be successful in this role, applicants should demonstrate strong technical welding abilities and experience working in industrial or construction environments.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a Welder or Gas Cutter in construction, fabrication, or industrial environments.
- Strong background in structural steel fabrication and installation.
- Experience performing MIG, TIG, and Arc (Stick) welding.
- Practical experience using oxy-acetylene cutting equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication plans accurately.
- Strong knowledge of metal fabrication techniques and welding safety procedures.
- High attention to detail with a focus on precision and quality workmanship.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour in an active job site environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety standards.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Availability to start immediately or within a short notice period.
