About Burlington Berries:

Burlington Berries is a family-owned and professionally managed soft fruit farm located in Cressy, Tasmania. We specialize in producing high-quality strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries under contract to Driscoll’s Australia. Our farm utilizes the latest technologies and production skills, and we operate an on-farm processing facility. With our planned expansion to a second site, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Horticultural Grower to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management of a 70ha protected cropping farm
  • Lead and develop a strong, sustainable team across all areas of operations
  • Execute the strategic plan and budget
  • Develop a 5-year production plan to optimize market opportunities
  • Select, recruit, and train key managers and supervisors
  • Manage nursery stock procurement from Driscoll’s
  • Oversee crop production, including cultivation, fertigation, pest and disease management, and plant husbandry
  • Manage the cropping plan, including growing, harvesting, and delivery
  • Drive productivity and cost efficiencies
  • Manage capital purchases and budget
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and production protocols
  • Manage quality assurance programs
  • Report to the board and communicate with stakeholders
  • Invest in environmental, social, and corporate governance initiatives
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive work environment

Qualifications:

  • Experience in business management, intensive horticulture, soft fruit production, WH&S, and financial reporting

Skills and Attributes:

  • Proven experience in business management and team leadership
  • Strong financial reporting skills and experience working within a budget
  • Knowledge of intensive soft fruit production, agronomy, fertigation, and harvest/non-harvest operations
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a close-knit team
  • Flexibility and adaptability
