Livestock Operation Overview for Experienced Station Hand

The combined enterprise spans approximately 100,000 acres, comprising two separate properties:

  • Cunnamulla Property: 50,000 acres

  • Dirranbandi Property: 50,000 acres

Livestock numbers include:

  • 9,000 Dorper sheep

  • 1,200 Composite cattle

  • 5,000 to 6,000 rangeland goats (mustering and management)

The successful applicant will work primarily at the Cunnamulla station, with occasional travel to Dirranbandi (approximately 3 hours away) as part of operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

As the Experienced Station Hand/Overseer, your duties will involve a wide range of livestock and property management tasks, including:

  • Day-to-day handling, mustering, and care of sheep, cattle, and goats using two-wheel motorbikes

  • Assisting with breeding, weaning, drenching, vaccinating, and other animal husbandry tasks

  • Mustering rangeland goats using low-stress handling methods

  • Performing routine property maintenance, including water infrastructure, fencing, and general repairs

  • Basic mechanical work and machinery upkeep

  • Operating vehicles and machinery safely and effectively

  • Monitoring paddock rotation, feed, and livestock health

  • Collaborating with the owners and other staff to ensure efficient operation across both properties

  • Keeping accurate records of animal treatments and movement

  • Occasionally representing the property in dealings with suppliers, contractors, or service providers

Skills & Requirements for Experienced Station Hand

To be successful in this role, you must bring a proactive and positive approach, along with the following essential skills and qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Station Hand, Overseer, or in a similar livestock role

  • Capability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Physically fit and willing to handle the demands of rural, outdoor work

  • Competent with a two-wheeled motorbike for mustering

  • Practical knowledge of livestock management, especially Dorper sheep, goats, and cattle

  • Solid skills in fencing, welding, and water systems maintenance

  • Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical issues

  • Understanding of the hours and seasonal demands associated with livestock work

  • HR Truck Licence desirable, but not essential

  • A genuine interest in rural life and contributing to a thriving agricultural enterprise
