Once a participating member body receives the application from a business person, it first undergoes a preliminary review based on individual operating standards and is then sent for further review via computer connection to other participating member bodies. Upon completion of the review process, the card will be issued based on the obtained evidence. Holders of the “APEC Business Travel Card” do not have to apply for visas from each participating member body; they only need to present the card and a passport with adequate validity while conducting business in participating member countries within the card’s validity period. Q: What is an e-Visa?

A: Electronic visas, issued by diplomatic offices of the Republic of China, allow foreigners to enter Taiwan and travel within the country. This new option has replaced traditional paper visas issued by overseas embassies of the ROC. To obtain an electronic visa, applicants must fill out their personal information, pay through MasterCard or Visa, and have their identity and qualifications verified. Upon approval of the electronic visa, the visa approval system of the Bureau of Consular Affairs will send an email notification with a link to download or print the visa. Upon arrival in Taiwan, the electronic visa will be confirmed by certificate inspectors of the Border Affairs Brigade of the Immigration Department using the visa issuance record on the system screen. It is highly recommended to have a physical copy of the e-Visa for precaution against system failure. However, like with traditional paper visas, immigration officers may deny entry to e-Visa holders without explanation.

Q: Who is eligible to apply for an e-Visa?

A: Nationals from Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Dominica, Ecuador, Kiribati, Kosovo, Kuwait, Risis, Montenegro, Oman, Panama, Peru, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Solomon Islands, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates can apply for an electronic visa if they meet the necessary requirements. Additionally, those invited to participate in international conferences, sports events, trade shows, or other activities hosted, co-organized, or sponsored by central government agencies can also apply for an electronic visa, with the exception of North Korean nationals who are restricted to sports event participants. Tourist groups from India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos applying for Taiwan tourism through a designated travel agency can also obtain an electronic visa as per the “Specifications for Visa Operations for High-quality Tourist Tourists from Southeast Asian Countries (Guanhong Project)”. Lastly, business people from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, and Iran who are recommended by the Foreign Trade Association’s local agencies can also apply for electronic visas.
