About the Role
Charles Sturt University is seeking a Farm Worker / Farm Manager to oversee all aspects of our mixed farming operation based in Orange, NSW. This is a unique opportunity to join CSU’s agricultural team and contribute to our mission in education, research, and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for implementing animal welfare best practices, managing livestock care, and ensuring all operations comply with applicable agricultural and biosecurity regulations. Your responsibilities will also extend to maintaining farm infrastructure, managing procurement and invoicing, supporting teaching and research activities, and providing technical support and training to farm facility users.
Key Responsibilities
- Livestock and Animal Welfare Management: Oversee daily livestock care, ensuring compliance with animal welfare standards and implementing best practices.
- Farm Infrastructure Maintenance: Manage the upkeep and improvement of farm facilities, including infrastructure, equipment, and machinery.
- Procurement and Inventory: Handle procurement, invoicing, and data entry related to supplies and farm operations.
- Technical Support and Training: Provide training and technical assistance to students, staff, and visitors to support research and teaching activities.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure farm operations meet all regulatory requirements, with a focus on workplace safety, biosecurity, and animal welfare.
- Digital Record-Keeping: Use digital tools for data entry, tracking farm operations, and supporting decision-making processes.
Who We’re Looking For
We seek candidates with significant experience in farm management, particularly within mixed farming operations, as well as experience in digital record-keeping and a solid understanding of applicable regulatory requirements. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the physical ability to perform manual labor are essential.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in Mixed Farm Operations: Strong knowledge and experience in managing operational, financial, and administrative activities on a farm.
- Understanding of Regulatory Requirements: Familiarity with relevant agricultural legislation, standards, and best practices to assess and mitigate potential risks.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using digital tools for data entry, record-keeping, and supporting decision-making.
- Physical Capability: Ability to perform manual labor as required for farm operations.
- Driver’s License: A valid NSW driver’s license is required.
