About the Opportunity
Are you ready for your next big adventure in one of Australia’s most remote and beautiful regions? An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and experienced Leading Hand / 2IC to join a large-scale cattle operation in Cape York, Queensland. This full-time role offers the chance to work directly alongside the property owner in managing the day-to-day operations of a 67,000-hectare station that runs approximately 1,500 breeders.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a remote setting, enjoys hands-on work, and is looking for a role that could turn into a long-term station management opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the property owner and take on a leadership role in all aspects of station work. Core responsibilities include:

Assisting with daily cattle station operations, including mustering on horses or quads

Implementing and promoting low-stress stock handling practices

Supervising fencing work, property maintenance, and water infrastructure upkeep

Operating and servicing machinery, vehicles, and station equipment

Managing staff or casual workers where needed

Ensuring workplace health and safety procedures are followed at all times
You’ll play a central role in keeping the station running smoothly and efficiently, working closely with the owner and becoming a vital part of the team.
What We’re Looking For
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

Previous experience on a cattle station, especially with mustering and yard work

Strong leadership and communication skills

A practical understanding of fencing, mechanical maintenance, and general station operations

The ability to work independently and remain self-motivated in a remote environment

An MC or HC truck licence (desirable but not essential)
This position is not suitable for Working Holiday Visa holders and requires someone committed, reliable, and enthusiastic about rural life.
