About the Role – Factory Worker

We are currently looking for dedicated and enthusiastic Factory Workers to join our busy and expanding team. This is a fantastic opportunity for motivated individuals who take pride in their work and want to be part of a hands-on, productive team in the timber industry.

As a Factory Worker at NorthTreat, you will play an important role in our production line. From preparing and treating timber to assisting with dispatch, you’ll be part of a process that delivers high-quality timber products to our customers on time and to spec. You will work with experienced tradespeople and learn essential skills in timber handling, coating, and logistics.

This position is suited to individuals who are reliable, enjoy physical work, and can work both independently and within a team setting. If you’re looking to join a stable company that values commitment and encourages development, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

As a Factory Worker at NorthTreat, your duties will include a variety of tasks related to timber preparation and order fulfillment. Full training will be provided, but prior experience in manufacturing or timber work would be advantageous. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Spray-Painting Operations: Operate industrial spray booths to apply primer, stain, and topcoat to timber products such as weatherboards and decking. Attention to detail and adherence to safety and quality protocols is critical.

  • Unloading Shipments: Assist with the safe and efficient unloading of timber and raw materials from delivery trucks. This involves handling long and heavy timber pieces and ensuring materials are stored correctly.

  • Timber Preparation: Perform sanding, filling, and other preparation work to ensure timber surfaces are ready for coating. This is a hands-on task that requires good hand-eye coordination and care.

  • Packing & Dispatching Orders: Help with packing treated timber for dispatch to customers. This includes labeling, stacking, wrapping, and recording details to ensure accurate delivery and traceability.

  • Inventory Tracking: Keep track of incoming and outgoing orders, help manage stock levels, and assist in recording production output.

  • Forklift Operation: If you hold a current forklift license, you may be tasked with moving large timber loads (up to 6 meters in length) using forklifts or other lifting equipment.

  • General Factory Duties: Contribute to the cleanliness and safety of the factory floor by maintaining workstations, managing waste, and following workplace procedures.

Work Schedule

Your regular working hours will be Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with occasional Saturday mornings depending on workload. We offer a consistent schedule, ensuring you have work-life balance while still having the opportunity for overtime during busy periods.

Ideal Candidate – Skills and Attributes

The ideal candidate for this role is someone who thrives in a physically demanding environment, works well in a team, and maintains a strong work ethic. We’re looking for individuals who are proactive and committed to doing their best every day. You’ll also need the following:

  • Physical Fitness: The role involves heavy lifting, standing for extended periods, and repetitive motion. You must be physically fit and capable of handling timber pieces up to 6 meters in length.

  • Team Player: A positive attitude and the ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers is essential. We work together to meet production goals and maintain quality.

  • Reliability: You should be dependable and punctual. Our production schedule depends on each team member showing up and performing at their best.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and basic written communication are important for following instructions, understanding safety guidelines, and completing basic paperwork or logs.

  • Health and Safety Conscious: A keen awareness of workplace safety is vital in a factory setting. You must follow all safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment for yourself and your teammates.

  • Legal Work Rights: You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (citizen, resident, or valid work visa).

  • Forklift License (Advantageous): If you are a licensed forklift operator with experience in handling long or heavy loads, this is a significant advantage, though not essential.
