Costa’s Pty Ltd is Australia’s largest berry producer, operating multiple sites across the country and leading in blueberry varietal improvement. We account for approximately 45% of Australia’s total blueberry supply and are committed to sustainable production practices that prioritize food safety. We are currently seeking a dedicated Irrigator to manage our irrigation systems and support our berry production operations in Gingin.

About the Role:

As an Irrigator, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Irrigation Management: Operate and maintain irrigation systems for substrate and soil-grown berry blocks, ensuring optimal water use and scheduling to meet agricultural targets.
  • Technical Duties:
    • Daily programming of computer-controlled irrigation systems to align with irrigation schedules.
    • Monitor plant water use and assess plant health through regular scouting of fields.
    • Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on irrigation pumps, pipework, and fittings, including cleaning and maintaining filter systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Physical Requirements: Perform moderate physical tasks, including walking, lifting (up to 25 kg), bending, and reaching, essential for maintaining irrigation operations.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Identify and report major irrigation and plant health issues to the Irrigation Manager and horticulture team.
  • Autonomous Work: Exhibit a strong ability to work independently while effectively managing time and resources to ensure smooth farm operations.

About You:

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Experience: A background in agriculture or horticulture is preferred but not essential.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and organizational skills are necessary for effective collaboration within the team.
  • Detail-Oriented: A keen attention to detail, particularly in monitoring plant health and water usage.
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer and mathematical skills for scheduling and reporting tasks.
  • Driver’s License: A current driver’s license and reliable transportation are required for commuting to the farm.
