Position Overview: Farm Manager, North Tasmania

Aurora Dairies is seeking a dedicated Farm Manager to lead operations at a 235-hectare dairy farm in North Tasmania, located just 10 minutes from Elizabeth Town. This productive farm is centered on a 50-bail rotary dairy setup, equipped with automatic cup removers (ACR), auto teat spray, and auto drafting. The farm operates a 100% spring calving system, milking around 730 cows with a pasture-based feeding model supplemented by pellets fed at the dairy.

This role offers a unique blend of independent and team-oriented work, with access to family accommodation and a vehicle. Aurora Dairies also supports partners’ employment, providing additional job opportunities on nearby farms.

Key Responsibilities

As Farm Manager, you will report to the Regional Operations Manager and be responsible for the following:

  • Safety Management: Ensure compliance with Aurora’s Safety Management System to maintain a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Team Leadership: Guide, mentor, and direct staff to achieve optimal outcomes, fostering a culture of support and collaboration.
  • Animal Welfare: Uphold Aurora’s commitment to high animal health standards through regular monitoring and care.
  • Operational Management: Manage daily farm tasks, including pasture inspection, stock rotation, feeding schedules, water monitoring, and equipment maintenance.
  • Sustainable Farming: Implement sustainable practices in line with Aurora’s environmental goals, coordinating activities like fertilization, hay/silage making, and stock treatment.
  • Data and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of stock, feed, and operations, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Budget Management: Follow set budgets and production targets to enhance farm profitability.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Dairy Farm Manager, ideally in large-scale livestock operations.
  • Strong knowledge of cattle management and pasture-based farming.
  • People management and leadership skills, with a collaborative approach to work.
  • Proficiency with computer-based reporting systems.
  • Skilled in equipment operation, including tractor and side-by-side vehicles.
  • Familiarity with safe work procedures, farm safety, and fatigue management.
  • Interest in new farming technologies like Halter cow collar systems.
