🌿 About the Role

Hawke’s Bay Eggs, a trusted family-owned and operated egg production farm in Hastings, is looking for a motivated Farm Assistant to join our team. This opportunity has become available following the retirement of a long-standing staff member.
This role is full-time and hands-on, with responsibilities spanning from animal care and egg grading to general farm duties. You’ll be working directly with our hens, ensuring their welfare, supporting sustainable farming operations, and helping us deliver fresh, high-quality eggs to customers across New Zealand.

🐓 What You’ll Be Doing

As a Farm Assistant, your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Animal Care: Feeding and caring for laying hens, monitoring their health and welfare, and promptly reporting any issues to the Farm Manager.

  • Egg Production: Collecting, grading, and packaging eggs with a focus on quality, freshness, and hygiene.

  • Farm Maintenance: Keeping farm facilities clean, disinfected, and biosecure, including housing and equipment.

  • General Farm Duties: Assisting with fencing, building repairs, equipment maintenance, and other practical farm tasks as needed.

  • Team Contribution: Working collaboratively with other farm staff to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • An HT Licence (Class 2 or 4) – desirable but not essential.

⏱ Hours of Work

  • Standard Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm.

  • Weekend/Public Holidays: You may be rostered for shifts, usually from 7:00 am – 1:00 pm.

  • As the farm operates seven days a week, flexibility is essential.
