The CMCC Foundation, a scientific research center on climate change, is seeking up to five experienced Water and Climate Risk Modelers for short-term research assignments. These roles within the Institute for Climate Resilience (ICR) focus on tangible outcomes in climate adaptation, risk assessment, and nature-based solutions (NBS).

Role Focus and Researcher Contribution
Selected researchers will work within a dynamic, multidisciplinary RAAS team, bridging scientific findings with policy recommendations. This opportunity allows for significant professional growth and exposure to international research networks.

Project Contribution: Actively contribute to European-funded projects addressing key challenges in climate adaptation, risk assessment, and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS).

Independent Research: Develop and implement your own research project or topic of interest, proposed in collaboration with RAAS staff, ensuring it aligns with unit priorities and the assignment duration (3-6 months).

Multidisciplinary Engagement: Enrich your research experience by integrating physical, environmental, and socio-economic perspectives with experts from diverse scientific backgrounds.
Essential Expertise and Technical Skills
This assignment targets highly qualified individuals who are ready to make an immediate impact on climate modeling research.
Required Academic Credentials

PhD degree (or be in the final stage of PhD studies) in Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Climate Risk Assessment, Mathematics, Physics, or related quantitative fields.
Key Technical Proficiencies

Proven background/experience in one or more high-value areas: Hydrological Modelling, Hydraulic Modelling, Numerical Modelling, Flood Risk Assessment, and Extreme Value Statistics.

Expertise in the Analysis of Large Datasets, GIS and Remote Sensing, and Climate services development.

Strong Quantitative and Programming Skills (ideally proficient in R or Python).

Very good knowledge of English (the CMCC/RAAS working language).
Desirable Assets

Prior experience contributing to European-funded research projects is a significant asset.
