The Fruit Farm Worker Role: Duties and Responsibilities
Under the Orchard Manager or Supervisor, you’ll handle orchard maintenance, irrigation, and harvest tasks. Duties vary with seasons and weather, including:
- Planting, thinning, and pruning trees; assisting with new orchard development.
- Preparing soil and managing irrigation—installing new systems in spring, maintaining and repairing as needed.
- Safely picking cherries during harvest to avoid damage to fruit, trees, or yourself.
- Sorting, weighing, packing, loading/unloading bins, and general farm maintenance.
- Maintaining equipment and tools.
- Following directions from management and participating in health/safety and ladder training.
This role emphasizes safety and efficiency in cherry farming operations.
Ideal Candidate: Qualifications for Irrigation-Experienced Farm Jobs
We need agile, detail-oriented team players. Key qualifications:
- Over 1.5 years of irrigation experience.
- Stamina for climbing ladders, walking uneven terrain, and repetitive lifting of 25 lbs minimum.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely for extended periods.
- Flexibility in a busy, demanding environment.
- Picking experience is a plus, but full training provided.
