About the Service | Ko Te Whare o Puna Whakataa
Puna Whakataa is a 10-bed residential Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) respite and treatment service, operated in partnership with The Salvation Army.

Provides up to 14 days of respite for individuals currently engaged with publicly funded AOD services

Focuses on creating a safe, calm and therapeutic environment — “the spring of rest and respite”

Combines Ember’s peer and support teams with clinical expertise from The Salvation Army
-
Ensures guests receive holistic support while staying connected to their community
The Role | Ngā Mahi
We are seeking an experienced, passionate Cook to bring creativity, warmth and culinary skill into our service at Puna Whakataa.
In this permanent part-time position (21 hours per week), you will be responsible for:

Preparing healthy, balanced and culturally appropriate evening meals for residents

Planning menus according to dietary needs and available resources

Managing stock levels, completing inventory checks and placing supply requests

Maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen environment
-
Contributing to a supportive and welcoming atmosphere where guests feel at home
This is a meaningful role where you will directly support the wellbeing of individuals on their recovery journey.
About You | Ngā Pūkenga
We would love to hear from you if you have:
-
Experience as a cook, preferably in residential, community or hospitality settings
-
Skills in menu and meal planning, portion control, stock management and food safety
-
Relevant cookery qualifications (preferred but not essential for the right candidate)

A Full NZ Driver’s Licence
-
A valid/current work visa, residency, or NZ citizenship
-
A commitment to supporting individuals with respect, dignity and compassion
Lived experience with AOD challenges and recovery is considered an advantage and is warmly welcomed.
